WORKSHOP PRESENTATION
This workshop provides an introduction to Implementation Science (IS) with a specific focus on its applications in HPV prevention and control research. IS offers frameworks, models, and study designs to:
1. Identify and understand factors that influence the adoption, implementation, and sustainment of evidence-based interventions.
2. Inform the design and evaluation of implementation strategies to enhance the delivery and impact of public health interventions.
By applying IS methodologies, researchers can study and improve how healthcare systems and providers adopt and integrate evidence-based interventions. IS can also guide the identification of key contextual factors that influence the success of intervention uptake, use, and long-term sustainability and design and evaluate implementation strategies that are effective in achieving optimal adoption, implementation, and scale-up of interventions to improve health outcomes. Given the urgency of translating effective HPV prevention, control, and treatment interventions into practice, IS provides essential tools to bridge the knowledge-to-practice gap. This workshop will equip participants with foundational IS concepts and approaches to accelerate the equitable dissemination and implementation of HPV-related interventions, ensuring that all populations benefit from advancements in HPV research.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
This workshop is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to implementation science, equipping participants with the foundational knowledge and practical tools needed to translate research into practice. Attendees will explore the core concepts and processes used in implementation science, enabling them to understand how to conduct HPV-related implementation research within diverse settings. This workshop is a practical, intensive learning experience where participants will hear from experts and practice the application of IS concepts and tools. Participants will learn how to apply these methods directly within their own institution or relevant program, specifically in the areas of HPV prevention and care. Participants actively engaged in the design of implementation research at their respective institutions can advance their work by applying concepts and participating in activities presented during this workshop.
Key objectives of the Workshop include:
- Foundations of Implementation Science: An overview of the field’s key concepts, setting the stage for understanding the goals of IS and differences between implementation research and other types of research.
- Theories, Models, and Frameworks: A detailed discussion of the guiding structures that help explain and predict implementation processes.
- Identifying Barriers and Facilitators: Techniques for recognizing challenges and enablers that affect the successful uptake, use, and sustainment of innovations.
- Planning Implementation Strategies: Hands-on sessions on designing implementation strategies to overcome obstacles and promote the adoption, implementation, and maintenance of evidence-based interventions.
- Hybrid Effectiveness-Implementation Studies: Insights into types of implementation research studies that evaluate both effectiveness and implementation outcomes simultaneously.
- Applications to HPV Research: Special focus on how implementation science can be applied to enhance HPV prevention, control, and treatment with real-world examples.
- Resources for IS Study Design: Access to curated materials and resources that support the development of robust implementation research projects.
By the end of the workshop, participants will not only have a solid understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of implementation science but will also be equipped with practical skills and resources for the future.
